| Meet Your Town Employees First in a SeriesBy Amy Lacy If you’ve ever been to a meeting at Town Hall or attended a court session or even just stopped by to pay a bill or pick up a recycling bin, you probably noticed that the room was all set up and ready for your meeting or that the recycling bins were stacked neatly, waiting for you along a freshly vacuumed hallway. But did you ever wonder who set up the tables and chairs for your meeting and who cleaned up after? Or who stacked those recycling bins and vacuumed those floors and stocked the restrooms and swept and salted the walkways and so much more?
Name: Kenneth Leon Caldwell As the maintenance man for Town Hall, Kenny is responsible not only for the day to day cleaning and maintenance of the building, but also for setting up chairs and tables and many other accessories for the numerous meetings and special events that take place at Town Hall as well as for cleaning up after these events. It is Kenny’s responsibility to make sure Town Hall provides a first-rate image of Zionsville to its residents and visitors. And it is not a responsibility he takes lightly. "I am so thankful to have this job," says Kenny. "I look forward to getting up and coming to work every day because I know what I do makes a difference." He says he loves meeting all the people who come through Town Hall each day and he is grateful to have such thoughtful and friendly co-workers, who he says make his work days a joy. "But," he points out, "The most important thing for me at work is to just stay focused." And focus he does. Whether it’s the details of his job, or spending time with his family - (Kenny, who has lived in Zionsville all his life, has two brothers and 3 sisters and a large extended family) - or his many friends or his involvement in numerous community events and service organizations - Kenny devotes his time, energy and concentration completely. Kenny is a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Lions Club. There is not a community event where you will not see Kenny Caldwell faithfully serving the public. That’s Kenny you see at the Masonic Lodge Fish Fry pouring cokes and handing out the ketchup packets, that’s Kenny you see in his bright yellow Lions Club shirt on the 4th of July, placing the little plastic ducks in the tank for the "’Z’Lucky Duck Race." That’s Kenny at the Country Market, shaking hands and greeting new visitors and old-timers alike. And maybe most notably, that’s Kenny you’ll see dressed as Uncle Sam, standing tall, waving and smiling atop a gaily decorated float at the Fall Festival parade. Though Kenny says he sometimes he just likes to relax and play euchre or go fishing, it’s hard to believe he finds the time. Kenny is continually giving back to the community he feels has given him so much. In fact just recently, his tireless community involvement earned him The Dahlia Award, the highest award given each year by the Chamber of Commerce to recognize an employee of a Zionsville business who exhibits excellence in service. It was an award well deserved. Whether he is washing a window at Town Hall in his blue collared work shirt or waving from a parade float wearing a red, white and blue top hat, Kenneth Leon Caldwell is - in the finest sense of the phrase - a true Public Servant. So from your town - thanks Kenny.
