President’s Letter

Hello Neighbors,

I hope everyone is doing well. Here is what’s happening in the VRA:

HOLIDAY TREE TRADITION TO CONTINUE
For those of you new to the village, there is a tradition of village residents putting a fresh cut Scotch Pine Christmas Tree in Front of their Home or Business. Many residents decorate their tree with lights and the result is an even more beautiful Christmas season in Zionsville. Trees will be available for pick up or delivered Saturday November 21st. If you are available to help deliver please contact erika@halcombsingler.com.  Thanks to Jane Forbes and Erika Singler for their efforts and everyone who helped hand out fliers.

THE SECOND ANNUAL HOLIDAY DOOR DECORATING CONTEST
Sally Zelonis has again worked with the Chamber of Commerce on the door/window decorating contest for the holiday season. Local merchants are enthusiastically supporting the idea again and I hope the village residents will participate with as much gusto. Entries must be received no later than November 28th and the judging will occur on December 2nd for Residential entries and December 3rd for Business Entries. More details follow in this Village Voice.

THANKS TO JILL REZEK AND TERRI MOYER
I want to thank Jill for all of her hard work on the Village Voice over the years as she steps down as VV editor!
I want to thank Terri for volunteering to take over as editor in January. Please share your time and abilities and help out the VRA by volunteering to write a contributing article to the Village Voice for 2016. If interested, please contact president@zvra or editor@zvra to be included in a meeting in December to discuss topics.

ANNUAL MEETING RECAP
-Two motions to amend the By-Laws were approved. One eliminated the “Non-voting membership” in favor of keeping just the existing “Honorary non-voting membership.” The other added a map to the By-Laws defining the boundaries of the VRA.
-The slate for a new executive board was approved. Thanks to the new President, Todd Rech; Vice President, Sara Martini; Treasurer, Erika Singler; and Secretary, Gary Angstadt for their future efforts! -Note: there may be a meeting in late November/December where we invite our newly elected Town Council representative(s) to introduce themselves and discuss topics like the proposed traffic light at 1st and Oak, the strategic plans use in development, and the RFP for the PNC Bank/Farmer’s Market property. I am also planning on asking the town attend to discuss the recent flooding in the village. Stay tuned.

PROGRESSIVE DINNER INVITES SOON TO GO OUT
The progressive dinner returns December 5. Please watch for an electronic invitation in early November and RSVP quickly as there will be limited availability again this year. And remember, your dues must be current to participate. Please join me in thanking Kathy Scales-Brown for all of her hard work in putting this together.

LEAF PICKUP IN THE VILLAGE
Leaf pickup continues each Monday through November. Rake leaves into long narrow piles along the curb. Please do not place sticks or other non-leaf items into piles and park cars off the street if possible so that the leaf vacuum can move more quickly throughout the Village.

Thank you,
Scott Lusk

Passing of the Pitchfork

Some organizations pass the gavel. VRA passes a pitchfork. Just another one of those mysterious oddities of Zionsville. Our congratulations and thanks go to our new president, Todd Rech (left) and lots of gratitude and thanks go to our past president, Scott Lusk (right)!
