Back to School (we get a break)

As of this writing, the Mayor has pulled the PUD for the South Village (just before our meeting on Monday)  and the US is winning with 20 medals in the Olympics.  In the words of Sarah (our Town Councilor), it was a “brave” move.  While it would likely have passed, it was not going to get the five-star ranking we have come to expect from our schools and town.  There were a lot of good things in this PUD that would have helped protect us from another Sycamore Flats, and I understand the town is going to use the document as a guideline for developers, but we will have to stay on top of all of the new developments as they arrive on our plate.  I hope the town will put at least one representative from the village on the proposed architectural committee that could act as a proxy for the south village committee that was proposed in the PUD.  That said, we get a break as the kids go back to school.

The undying efforts of our VRA South Village PUD Committee (aka the Bigger Brains Committee) are not unnoticed and have contributed greatly to the guidelines that will be used with new developers.  I thank every one of our committee members, especially our leader John Tousley.

Next up is the comprehensive plan! Here is a news story recently posted on tv: Zionsville preparing for future development with new comprehensive plan (wrtv.com)

So back to business… Firstly, I am looking for a replacement for my position as president of the VRA next year.  Voting is in a few months and I would love to have some more new faces and blood in the VRA mix.  Please put your neighbors name in the hat so we can have a proper debate and vote in the fall.

Our first VRA bike ride is scheduled for August 10th at 9am.  This will be a family ride and helmets are mandatory.  I am hoping to ride from Main Street, up Walnut to the 9th street entrance to the rail trail, up around the dog park and back to Vonterra, where we can find the little-known Mountain Bike paths!  Then, ride back to the Farmers market and get some recovery calories 😉  We can talk rules of the road, pace lining, pelotons and bike etiquette while riding.

I hope to see you on the road!

VRA Annual Picnic!

Saturday, September 21, is our annual Picnic on the Bricks. All Village residents are welcome to attend the block party and meet neighbors from all parts of OG Zionsville. Burgers and brats (veggie and beefy) will be provided, along with water. Bring a salad, side dish, or dessert to share. And beverages of your choice. There will be fun things for kids to do also.
