Presidents Message
Happy July! I hope everyone had a great 4 th and you are managing to stay cool
while we endure a major heat wave!!

The July meeting was well attended as was the reception prior to the start of the
meeting. I thank everyone who came as I know July is a very busy time. Our
guests Vikki Duke and Steve Doyle gave excellent talks to the assembled group,
and it seems like most everyone enjoyed them. We will continue to highlight
Zionsville’s merchants and residents who have interesting stories to tell. If you
have ideas for folks who might be good candidates to speak, please let me know!!
I wanted to provide an update on the status of the new Comprehensive Plan
currently under development. Mayor Stehr provided the schedule below:
Here is a schedule of upcoming milestones and meetings:
– Draft plan to Town for initial review – August 1
– Revised draft to Steering Committee – Week of August 11
– Steering Committee meeting to review/discuss draft – Week of August 18
– Public Draft (revised after steering committee input) – Week of September 8
– Public Presentation of Draft – Week of September 8

I urge everyone to review the document when it is submitted to the public and
attend the public meeting. This plan will guide the future direction of Zionsville
for many years to come and is your opportunity to have input. Here is the website
to view the plan and upcoming milestones: https://www.uniquelyzionsville.com
The Lincoln Park “refresh” will begin this fall with tree removal and re-grading.
The tree removal is necessary to accommodate the new landscaping and drainage
plan. Discussions are underway to find a method to honor all those whose names
are associated with the various trees that have been planted in the park over the
years. You can participate in a celebration of the park prior to the beginning of the
refresh. https://www.zionsville-in.gov/779/Love-for-Lincoln. This site describes all
the events surrounding the park revitalization and reveals the changes the future
park will showcase. The VRA is an active participate in the revitalization effort and
we will keep you informed as the park is transformed.

Don’t forget the Zionsville Street Dance on August 2nd from 5 PM to 9 PM and the
Zionsville Picnic on the Bricks hosted by the VRA on September 13 th . The picnic will be on Main Street north of Walnut and begins at 6:00 PM. Both of these events
are great fun and very popular. Both are open to all Zionville residents and
guests!!

The next VRA meeting will be held on October 21st at the SullivanMunce. The
wine and cheese reception will start at 6:15 and last until 7:00 when the official
meeting will begin. If you have not yet paid your dues, you may do so at the
reception. We will have a check-in table with name tags as you enter.

At the July meeting we had a discussion on traffic safety in the Village. Speeding
and running of stop signs appears to be a problem. We compiled input from many
citizens regarding problem streets and intersections and provided the information
to the mayor. He has pledged to discuss the issue with the Chief of Police and see
what solutions are possible. Stayed tuned for an update.

As always if you have any items you would specifically like to see addressed in our meetings, please let me know.

Regards,
