Dear Neighbors,
We had a great turn out for our April meeting. The architect,
David Rausch, from the “200 W. Sycamore” project presented and provided information on the development. On Wednesday, May 4, there will be a special meeting of the Planning Commission Committee at the Town Hall at 7:00p.m. Let’s represent at this meeting as well.
Erika Singler also presented information on volunteering at the Farmer’s Market. If you are interested in volunteering this season, contact Erika at erika@halcombsingler.com .The opening day for the market is May 14. I hope to see you there!
Also, a big thank you to Ted Schrader for organizing VRA’s involvement in the Pull for the Parks and to all of the people who came to help! We had a great time pulling mustard weed, and I truly think we are making a difference for our parks. It was standing-room-only at the recent VRA meeting.
Additionally, Lincoln Park Concert Series is grateful for our $200 donation. We will have a table at the Lincoln Park Concert on June 8 and July 6 to pass out information on the VRA. This is a really fun, family-friendly event, and it’s a great way to connect with your neighbors. Changing gears, it has been brought to my attention that two recent incidences of theft and vandalism occurred on Third Street. Both incidents were reported to the Zionsville Police Department. This is very atypical for the village. Please be aware that things like this can happen even in the village.
Lastly, a reminder of the Z’Village Yard sale set for May 14 from 8am to 2pm. All village residents are invited to participate. Thank you to Jennifer Blandford and Carpenter Realtors for organizing and sponsoring this event. Contact jblandford@callcarpenter.com for more information.
Our next VRA meeting is scheduled for June 21. Realtor and VRA treasurer, Gary Angstadt, will be presenting on real estate in the village and how to improve your home value. The meeting will be taking place at 7:30p.m. at the SullivanMunce.

Town Councilman Update by Josh Garrett
I hope each of you are enjoying the intermittent arrival of Spring. I was envious of everyone who got to escape for Spring Break. Going out to eat that week felt at times like everybody had left for the week!
I wanted to spend some time talking about other jobs related to the Council. Beyond our Town Council duties, each member of the Council is assigned to one or more commissions, committees or boards to give an elected voice to that group. This is a diverse list including safety board, water advisory board and non-discrimination committee.
I was happily elected to the Board of Police Commissioners along with Councilors Papa and Suarez. Madison Carney and Susanne Nagy also service on this Commission. The purpose of this group is to oversee the police department in personnel and policy issues. We meet monthly to hear updates on any issues within the police department and give both input and direction on initiatives they may be considering. For example, our last meeting discussed a mentorship program within the department, a new K-9 program and the idea of creating a Boys Scout Explorer program within our schools. The Commission members were able to ask key questions about each of these programs to help guide them and make them appropriate for our community. These meetings are always open to the public and you’re welcome to attend to learn more.
Through this Commission I’ve gotten to know our Police Chief (Rob Knox) and some of his staff and officers. I’ve been very impressed with their knowledge, experience and caring for our community. I’m looking forward to doing a ride-along with one of the officers in the coming months to see what they handle in a given shift. We have had some disturbing news these past few months with crime not typical for Zionsville. In addition there is always a need to police our neighborhoods for crimes of opportunity that may occur. Public safety will continue to be a focus and priority for me as we look at future funding for the department and ensuring Zionsville is a safe place to live and work.

What is your favorite Zionsville restaurant?
We frequent the restaurants downtown all the time. They’re all different and we go there for different things. Mainly Patricks, Cobblestone, Salty Cowboy and Noah Grants. Talia loves Patrick’s flatbread
What is your favorite movie?
Anything that makes me laugh
What is your advice for others in the Village?
One of the things I’ve loved about being here is feeling part of the community. Ghost Walk was so much fun, I felt like being a real member of the town by being invited. You get to know folks more quickly. Everyone’s really open. Because I like to garden and I like the character and feel of this town, I’ll go for long walks and get ideas. It’s inspirational.
Why did you choose Zionsville?
We love older homes so when we moved here we wanted badly to buy something with history. We looked here, Indianapolis and Broad Ripple and got lucky. I work two miles from home so that works too.
And character. The older homes give it character.
Farmer’s Market to Open May 14 by Sara Martini
Spring is here and you know what the means? The opening of the Zionsville Farmer’s Market is just around the corner! Beginning May 14, enjoy one of the best parts of the village!
The farmer’s market will be open every Saturday through September 24 from 8:00 am – 11:00 am. This year, the Market will be featuring more than 35 vendors with high quality, local and fresh products. Many of last year’s vendors will be returning, plus there will be new vendors as well!
In addition to wonderful food, special events like “Bike to Market Day,” “Strawberry Shortcake Day” and “National Farmer’s Market Day” provide fun for the entire family. The Zionsville Farmers Market is located at the corner of Main Street and Hawthorne in the heart of the village.
