Presidents Message

As we enter the summer months, I always enjoy a walk around the Village to marvel at the pride our residents take in making their yards look so wonderful and appealing. We get quite a few tourist walking the Village and I’m sure they appreciate the work everyone puts in to making their yards look the best they can be. We are truly blessed to have so many beautiful homes with owners who take pride in making them look so great!

As you may have noticed we have made some changes which were announced at the meeting last month. We have decided to move our VRA meetings to a quarterly cadence versus monthly.*  In doing this we hope that each meeting will be a robust and content rich experience that residents will enjoy and find both informative and fun.

In addition we are going to have a wine and cheese reception prior to each meeting, free to paid members of the VRA. We hope this will encourage attendance as well as increase dues paying members. Finally, we will have a reception desk where those attending the meetings will check in and fill out a name tag.  This will allow us to keep our files up to date on membership and, hopefully, the name tags will encourage more discussion among those attending! We want our meetings to be an opportunity to get to know your fellow Village residents!!

A new event is debuting this June! Summer Food Trucks in the Park begins June 2nd and continues every Monday in June. The trucks will be located on 2nd Street behind Lincoln Park and be open from 6 to 9 PM. This will be a fun social gathering for both adults and kids, Also, feel free to bring your friends! The VRA reminders email will contain more information each week including what musical guest will be playing! Thanks to Vikki Duke at F.C. Tucker for partnering with the VRA on this great event!

We have an exciting change to our website as well! We now have VRA swag!! Yes, there are now 23 items for sale that have the new VRA logo on them. We will have some of the tote bags for sale at the Food Truck Monday events in June. If you are interested in one of these items, please visit the website and go to the “Products” tab at the top of the page. This will take you to the site where you can order and pay for the item via PayPal or a Credit card. The money we receive from the sale of these items goes to support our programs throughout the year. Please visit and buy an item to support the VRA!! If there is something you would like to see us offer please let us know and we will investigate to see if its available.

Our July meeting is in the works, and I will have information for you in next month’s letter on who our guest speakers will be and other topics we will be discussing. In the meantime I encourage you to visit the VRA website often for updates.

As always please encourage you neighbors and village friends to attend the meetings. I hope to see you at the reception and meeting on Tuesday the July 8th starting at 6:15 PM.

Mark

*It is important to note that while we are not holding meetings monthly if a critical issues arises that could or will impact the Village, we will not hesitate to call a special meeting.

A Word from the Mayor

Springtime in the Village means many things – re-birth, renewal, new beginnings.  It’s greener and more colorful and neighbors are finally able to reconnect after the colder months.

In Zionsville, that also means the return of the Farmer’s Market, which seems to only get better each year.  Like many of you, I can remember the first markets nearly 30 years ago in the parking lot on Main Street as well as the “COVID markets” at Town Hall just a few years ago.  Since then, we have settled into a nice rhythm in the parking lot and on the street with a great mix of produce, baked goods, and other items that you just can’t seem to get anywhere else.

From time to time, Amy and I have gone to other Saturday morning farmer’s markets, either because of travel or just to check what other towns are doing — and we always come back to the same feeling: there is just “something” about the Zionsville market.  Maybe it’s the familiarity of the vendors or the friendly faces of the participants or just catching up with folks we don’t always get to see (and, besides, who doesn’t like a good scrambled egg and pulled pork burrito or a walking waffle every now and then).  A place is just a place.  It’s the people who make it feel like home.  I know our town has grown quite a bit since the market started in 1997, but we haven’t outgrown the small town feel.  Zionsville is still a place where generally people know, and care, for one another.  My family and I are thankful to live here and thankful for the neighbors we have.

See you at the market!
