Settling in for Fall
I hope you are getting a more relaxed August as we get ready for fall. The PUD is pulled but not wasted as our efforts and those of others will be used as an outline for future development considerations.
Speaking of development, the work on the new comprehensive plan is under way with the next opportunity to learn/participate coming up after the reconciliation of the last August 21st zoom meeting. Learn more about upcoming input sessions and the process here: Uniquely Zionsville
Next up for our Village is the annual Brick Street Picnic! Mark your calendars for September 21st at 5:30pm where we will provide burgers (and vegan ones) and hot dogs, or bring your own to throw on the grill. Bring a side dish or dessert and a drink of your choice as we block off Main Street and have some kids games too!
We will have a special local guest!!! Dan Wyatt, who lives in the village, will be playing acoustic and electric live music for our enjoyment!!!
Put the beginning of October on your calendar too for the annual GhostWalk!!! (read more below)
See you at the picnic!

Letter from Town Council
Happy Labor Day weekend! I will be enjoying time with my family. I hope you all have fun plans as well. Since we are already a couple of weeks into the school year, my kiddos are happy to have a day off! Next weekend’s Fall Festival will have the town hopping, and I’m guessing many of you are volunteers or involved in the groups who will be represented in the big parade on Saturday, September 7th. I hear that Ralph and Jan Stacey are the Grand Marshalls!
This summer has been active for the Town Council so here’s a recap with information of the past 3 months:
-The June meetings included discussions on requests for banking proposals to save on our fees, the introduction of a new town e-newsletter, votes on Sentry and the Holliday Farms EDA, and a budgeting process presentation from Tim Berry (the financial consultant from Crowe).
-July brought the swearing in of 6 new firefighters, the amendment of the Stormwater Ordinance, and a new stop sign at Bennett Parkway and Redd Rd. Conversations about the South Village PUD, Zoning criteria, new proposed fee schedules, and clarification in the Salary Ordinance also occurred.
-The first August meeting had the swearing in of Ed Frank as the Merit Engineer and the introduction of Justin Hage as Deputy Mayor. We voted to pass the amendment of the Salary Ordinance, as well as voted to not accept the South Village PUD, per Mayor Stehr’s request. During the August 19th meeting, we were able to honor Matt Anderson, an Olympic bronze medalist who lives in Zionsville. We also heard about the SBOA audits, increased patrols for ZPD expanding in some of the rural sections of Zionsville for efficient service, and that BMO had been chosen to handle the town’s banking accounts.
Our town’s budgeting process is in full swing and will continue to be discussed and presented in September. The next Town Council meeting is at 7:00 pm on September 3rd, a Tuesday, due to Labor Day. Please continue to reach out when you have positive thoughts or if you need to share concerns to my email (sesampson@zionsville-in.gov) Hope to see you on the parade route next weekend. I’ve been preparing by buying lots of candy! – Sarah
GhostWalk 2024
This year’s annual spooky walking tour of Zionsville takes place October 4 & 5. If you are open to having your Village home as one of the stops, please reach out to ghostwalk@sullivanmunce.org. The little ghosts and goblins will only use your front yard or porch, and you don’t even have to be home that weekend for us to haunt it!
Tickets for GhostWalk are now on sale at sullivanmunce.org. Tours leave every 15 minutes between 6 and 9 pm. Last year nearly every tour sold out, so buy your tickets now! GhostWalk is appropriate for elementary students and up, but younger children are welcome to attend. Please be forewarned that our tales are based on true stories from Zionsville’s history, and some of the subject matter may be a bit frightening for little ones. Tours take approximately one hour.
