President’s Letter:

Dear Neighbors –

I hope you are all doing well! I am pretty excited that spring is right around the corner. This has been a great winter but I’m ready to see some leaves on the trees and flowers in bloom.

VRA event planning is in full swing. We recently had our February meeting at the Brick Street Inn to learn more about their expansion plan. We had great attendance and members were able to find out more information and ask questions. Many thanks to Paul Vezolles, the owner of Brick Street Inn and Auberge Restaurant, for hosting us and including us in his outreach to the community regarding their plans.

Below are upcoming events and updates:

Saturday, March 14: The Zionsville Fire Department will provide a one-hour event for the VRA at 1:00pm. The event will include a tour, QA session, along with important safety tips. The fire station is located at 100 N. Ford Road, Zionsville. They recommend that visitors park across the street at Boone Village. The fire department would also like a headcount for planned attendance, so if you plan to attend, please fill out the very short survey that can be found in the weekly Sunday event e-mail.

Lincoln Park Concert Series: As some of you may know, the former Lincoln Park Concert series has been moved to Lions Park for the June and July months. Therefore, the VRA is starting the process of planning another concert series at Lincoln Park for those months. The results of our recent survey indicated that our community would welcome another smaller series during those months. Alex Lee, one of our VRA members, is heading up the charge. He, along with a small committee, are in the early stages of determining the requirements and working with the Parks Board to make it happen. We look forward to seeing what they have planned.

Have a great March and I will see you soon!

Town Council:

I’ve heard some grumblings about the recent closure of the Sycamore Street bridge closure, mostly from my wife, but I know it can be an inconvenience. We have an interesting mix of infrastructure ownership here in Zionsville. For example, all bridges in Zionsville are owned and maintained by Boone County, even if the roads on either side of them are part of the Town. We also have State Roads like US-421 in the mix that operate on their own schedule.

While the Town does its best to coordinate paving and replacement schedules for all infrastructure, there are times when schedules don’t align. The Sycamore Street bridge for example is partially paid by Federal tax dollars that are scheduled years in advance and we don’t always have good visibility to the timing of those dollars.

I always support continuing to invest in our infrastructure, even if it might be painful during the process.

Switching gears, we’re coming close to the retirement of Police Chief Rob Knox. Chief Knox has been with the force for many years, in many roles, culminating with his role as Chief these past few years. He’s done a great job guiding the force and will be missed. If you’ve ever had an interaction with Chief over the years, I’m sure it was positive, and I know he’d love to hear from you in his final days on the job.

Mayor Styron opened the position to anyone that wanted to apply, and we had over 60 applicants from 7 states! It shows how desirable Zionsville is as a destination and employer, while giving the Town a large pool of internal and external candidates to interview and find our next Chief!
